I love katydids, so when I saw this one hanging out on one of our front window screens, I ran in the house and grabbed Jellybean to show her.
Me: "It's a katydid! Isn't it cool?"
Jellybean very excited:"Where's the kitty cat?"
Me: No, it's a katydid. It's an insect...a bug."
Jellybean frowning: "I no like bugs."
One more katydid story:
I used to have a friend with a little sister named Katie. Once my friend and I spotted a katydid in a tree: "It's a katydid!" To which Katie responded: "No I didn't!" tee hee.
Have a Happy Day!

I've a daughter named Katie! I will have to show her this and look up on this insect (a good homeschool project for us!)
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of this!
It's a really cool insect. I don't know how old your daughter is, but it could be fun to talk about adaptations and how the katydid is able to blend into its environment. (well, except for when it's hanging out on my window.)
DeleteNo kidding! I didn't know that was a Katydid, but it's def. awesome!

We had one flutter into the pool this summer--the girls thought it was leaf and one went to grab it....it was too funny! Thanks for sharing! Enjoy your week!
